The Tour :

Features a  collection of soft adventures: from whale-watching in Mirissa Waters to jeep-safari in Yala National Park, mountain biking in Ella, climbing Ambuluwawa Tower in Gampola, jungle trekking to Waraka-Ara Falls and climbing the imposing Mulgirigala Rock Monastery to name a few. What’s remarkable about the current program is, it is exceptionally nature-based, keeping man-made cultural sights to a minimum.

Anyone who craves for active holidays in Sri Lanka. Primarily for outdoor fans and nature lovers as well as for young couples. Equally suitable for families with school kids. Recommended age: from 08 years above to physically agile senior citizens.

When to go :

November to April is the season for whale-watching in Mirissa. Apart from that, the rest of the program is good to go throughout the year, with the exception of May and October. Yala National Park is closed in September for its annual break. But this should not put you off as Yala can be easily replaced with near-by Bundala or Udawalawe Parks.

Day 01

Transfer to the hotel in Colombo. In the afternoon set out on a city tour: visit the vividly colorful Gangarama Temple and the Colombo National Museum. Don’t miss out the man-eater of Punani displayed at the National Museum of Natural History.

Day 02

This morning depart for the heavenly Mirissa beach. Along the way, hop aboard a boat safari on the Madu River, the second largest swamp in the island, followed by an excursion in the Dutch Fort in Galle. Continue on to your accommodation in Mirissa. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 03

Rise up early for a whale-watching trip off the Mirissa waters, known for being the best feeding grounds in the world for Blue Whales. By mid-morning return to the hotel. Spend the day leisurely on the beach.

Day 04

Visit the Rock Monastery of Mulgirigala, which comprises a number of fascinating caves located at different heights of the 210 m high boulder. Don’t miss out the cavity in one wall where a cobra had inhabited once without causing harm to pilgrims. Transfer to rural Yala. In the afternoon set out on a thrilling jeep safari in the Yala National Park, which is known to house the largest leopard population in the world.

Day 05

Depart for picturesque Ella town. En route visit the Buduruwagala to explore the mystic rock carvings set in a lovely tranquil forest glade off the beaten track. Nestled on the banks of Kirindi Oya river, 03 km deep inside the evergreen jungles of Ella, Ella Jungle Resort is the outdoor fan’s ultimate sanctuary. In the afternoon set out on a delightful hike to the Waraka-Ara Falls, hidden further inside the jungle.

Day 06

Start the morning off with delightful aerial rope adventures across the river, followed by a 13-km long mountain bike ride down the hills to the heavenly Ellewala Falls. Grab your bathing gear to take a refreshing dip at the base of the waterfall. Later on be transferred back to the hotel by a 4×4 drive. Spend the afternoon leisurely.

Day 07

Enjoy a blissful moment at the Ravana Falls this morning before we continue on to the Ella Railway station. Hop aboard a scenic train bound for Nuwara Eliya, which offers spectacular views of endless lush tea fields, waterfalls, reservoirs and a countless number of tunnels. Your guide picks you up again at the Nanu Oya station, which is the closest to Nuwara Eliya, and transfers you to the hotel in Nuwara Eliya. In the afternoon set out on a city tour.

Day 08

This morning sit back and enjoy spectacular views of endless lush tea fields as we drive to Kandy city via Kitulgala and Gampola today. Stop-over in Kitulgala for an adrenalin-pumping rafting trip. Slip into your wet suit, grab a paddle and enjoy an adventurous 05 km league whitewater rafting trip on the Kelani River. Later on climb the Ambuluwawa Peak biodiversity complex in Gampola, a unique man-made site known for its biodiversity and a large variety of herbs and flowers. At the summit enjoy the sweeping views of the town below and literally a 360° view of the entire hill country of Sri Lanka. Transfer to the hotel in Kandy. In the afternoon embark on a city tour. The bustling city offers great shopping opportunities too. In the evening enjoy a Cultural show followed by a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Day 09

Begin the day with a relaxed walk in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, nestled on the banks of Mahaweli River. A number of dignitaries including Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and Queen Elizabeth II have planted trees to mark their visits here. Later on take an informative guided walk in a spice garden in Mawanella. Thereafter depart for your beach break in Negombo, which is just a 20 minute drive from the airport. Spend the evening at leisure relaxing by the beach.

Unwind, relax and catch a tan as you enjoy your free day by the Indian Ocean.
