The Tour :

This thrilling tour takes you through the ruins and remains of 06 historic sights of the Cultural Triangle, up to a couple of enigmatic rock monasteries, to the chilly Highlands where you would enjoy a few breathtaking hikes, a scenic train ride, a jeep safari, to finally wind down and bask in the sun by the turquoise-blue waters of the Mirissa Beach.

When to go :

From mid November through April. But generally throughout the year, with the exception of early May and latter part of October.

Best For :

Honeymooners. Young couples. Basically everybody. Toddler-free families and physically fit senior citizens would do far better as there are a number of excursions that require climbing boulders or heights.

Day 01

Transfer to the hotel in Negombo, just 20 minutes drive from the airport. With a fabulous view of the mighty ocean, Goldi Sands Hotel is a perfect place to unwind after a long flight.

Day 02

Travel north-east to Dambulla town. Visit the 2000 year old, UNESCO-listed Dambulla cave temple. Walls and ceilings of the 05 caves here are coated in centuries old murals. Later on be transferred to the Hotel in Dambulla.

Day 03

Start the morning off climbing the Sigiriya Rock, Sri Lanka’s most visited tourist attraction. The famous gigantic lion paws gate-guard the stairs to the summit where once stood the monarch’s palace. Thereafter head further east to explore the ruins of bygone Polonnaruwa kingdom.

Day 04

Start the day off with a visit to Anuradhapura, the first and the longest lived kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka. Visit the sacred Bo tree – the oldest historically documented flowering tree in the world and the colossal Jetavanarama Stupa – one of the tallest structures of the ancient world. Also visit Mihintale monastery, regarded as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. An impressive fleet of granite steps leads to the summit of the boulder, where you’ll be rewarded with 360-degree sweeping views of the countryside.

Day 05

Take an informative excursion to a spice garden in Matale. Here you can pick a lesson on how to prepare local dishes using tropical spices too. Transfer to the hotel in Kandy. In the afternoon embark on a city tour. The bustling city offers great shopping opportunities too. In the evening enjoy a Cultural show followed by a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Day 06

Take a relaxed walk in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya located on the banks of Mahaweli River. A number of dignitaries including Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and Queen Elizabeth II have planted trees to mark their visits here. Later on sit back and enjoy spectacular views of endless lush tea fields as we drive to Nuwara Eliya the hill country resort located at 1800 m above sea level. En route, stop-over to catch a glimpse of the beautiful Ramboda Falls and to visit a tea factory. Factory fresh tea can be purchased at the factory outlet. In the afternoon enjoy a city tour of Nuwara Eliya.

Day 07

This morning hop aboard a scenic train bound for Ella, which offers amazing views of tea plantations, waterfalls, reservoirs and a countless number of tunnels. Spend the afternoon at leisure in Ella.

Day 08

This morning take a delightful hike to the near-by Little Adam’s Peak. Beat the crowds by hitting the road early. At the summit enjoy the breathtaking views of heavenly mountains around. In the afternoon set out on a thrilling hike to the Ella Rock. Though its physically more challenging compared to the Little Adams Peak, yet provides a magnificent 04-hour walk up to the hilltop through the colorful countryside.

Day 09

Leaving the highlands behind, travel southward to Udawalawe. On the way, spend a blissful moment at the Ravana Falls in Ella. In the afternoon set out on a thrilling jeep safari in the Udawalawe National Park. A large variety of endemic as well as migrant birds can be seen here apart from mugger crocodiles, sambar deer, leopards, wild boar and elephants.

Day 10

Visit the Rock Monastery of Mulgirigala, where a number of fascinating caves are located at different heights on this 210 m high boulder. Don’t miss out the cavity in one wall where a cobra had inhabited once without causing harm to pilgrims. Depart for your exciting beach vacation on the Mirissa beach.
