En route to Kandy, take an informative, half-an-hour long excursion in a spice garden in Mawanella. Gain an insight into how spices that you have used to flavor you food at home, and many other tropical herbs that you have known or heard of, are grown.
Sight : Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya
Enjoy a relaxed stroll in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, which is located on the banks of Mahaweli River. A number of dignitaries including Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and Queen Elizabeth II have planted trees to mark their visits here. One of the key highlights of the garden is the beautiful orchid collection.
Sights : Sightseeing in Kandy
On reaching Kandy, which is a UNESCO heritage city, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Later on visit the Upper-Lake Drive from where you will catch a panoramic view of the city and drive around the man-made Kandy Lake. Hop on a boat for a joyful ride on the lake that offers great views of the old parts of the town including the Temple of the Tooth Relic and the over-a-century and a half old Queens Hotel in the backdrop of Udawatta Kele forest reserve. Leave some time to browse through fabulous gift stores before heading back to Colombo.
