Day 01

Transfer to the hotel in Colombo. In the afternoon set out on a city tour of Colombo. Visit the vividly colorful Gangarama Temple, cluttered with artifacts, and the Colombo National Museum. Don’t miss out the man-eater of Punani displayed at the National Museum of Natural History.

Day 02

Enjoy a trip to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala, the only of its kind in the world. And travel north-east to Dambulla town. Visit the 2000 year old, UNESCO-listed Dambulla cave temple. Walls and ceilings of the 05 caves here are coated in centuries old murals. Later on transfer to the hotel in Dambulla.

Day 03

Start the morning off with a delightful village tour in near-by Hiriwadunna. This excursion, commonly referred to as Hiriwadunna trek, combines a relaxed stroll through the village to the near-by Hiriwadunna Lake where you hop onto a catamaran to cross over to the opposite bank. There you take a lesson on how to prepare an local traditional lunch on open fire using earthenware utensils. Learn how to scrape coconuts, extract coconut milk and to grind sambol-salads on the grinding stone. After enjoying the lunch you cooked, return to hotel for a midday break. In the afternoon set out on a thrilling jeep safari in the Minneriya National Park, renowned for the largest seasonal elephant-gathering in the world.

Day 04

Start the morning off climbing the Sigiriya Rock, Sri Lanka’s most visited tourist attraction. The famous gigantic lion paws gate-guard the stairs to the summit where once stood the monarch’s palace. Thereafter head further east to explore the ruins of bygone Polonnaruwa kingdom.

Day 05

Take an informative excursion to a spice garden in Matale. After the excursion, pick a cookery lesson here on how to prepare local dishes using tropical spices. Later on be transferred to the hotel in Kandy. In the afternoon embark on a city tour. Tour the Upper-lake Drive with sweeping views of the city, drive around the man-made Kandy Lake and browse through gift stores. In the evening enjoy a cultural show followed by a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Day 06

This morning visit the Ceylon Tea Museum in the Hantana Mountains, just on the borders of Kandy city. During your brief guided tour learn the various steps involved in tea making and the different varieties grown here, after which you can taste a refreshing cup of tea on the top floor enjoying the panoramic views of the beautiful Hunnasgiriya, Knuckles Mountains and Matale hills. Later on take a relaxed walk in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya located on the banks of Mahaweli River. A number of dignitaries including Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and Queen Elizabeth II have planted trees to mark their visits here.

Day 07

Sit back and enjoy spectacular views of endless lush tea fields as we drive this morning to Nuwara Eliya the hill country resort located at 1800 m above sea level. En route, stop-over to catch a glimpse of the beautiful Ramboda Falls. In the afternoon enjoy a city tour of Nuwara Eliya.

Day 08

Enjoy the morning drive to picturesque Ella as the road twists and winds around scenic mountains and gaps. In the afternoon set out on a delightful hike to the near-by Little Adam’s Peak. At the top, enjoy the breathtaking views of heavenly mountains around. Later on move on for yet another thrilling hike up to the famous nine-arch bridge in Demodara. See if you can time the visit so you would get to capture a selfie when the train runs in the backdrop over the bridge.

Day 09

Leaving the highlands behind, travel southward to the seafront Hikkaduwa town. On the way, spend a blissful moment at the Ravana Falls in Ella. In the afternoon explore the magnificent Dutch Fort of Galle, known to be the best preserved and the largest living sea fort in Asia. Enjoy a guided walk down its centuries old cobbled streets to the ramparts and the lighthouse. Among the historic landmarks within is the reputedly oldest breadfruit tree in the island.

Day 10

This morning head back again to the Dutch Fort for a cookery lesson. Shop along with the host at the near-by market for goods to prepare. Learn how to use authentic regional flavors, local ingredients and traditional cooking methods. Feast on your freshly cooked dishes at the end, say adios to the host and return to your beach hotel.
